Welcome Home!

A beautiful holiday porch welcomes guests and makes your home stand out in the neighborhood. We asked Nicole Keleher, head designer at My Christmas, for her tips for what makes a successful Christmas-themed front porch.

“I think there is nothing more eye-catching and stunning than a beautifully decorated garland, and if you can run power to the garland, cover it in fairy lights,” says Keleher.

Even a small porch can make an impact with the right decor. “You can still make a small porch welcoming for the holidays,” says Keleher, “First, hang a wreath for a festive touch to the front door. And if you don’t have space for a garland around your front door, maybe there is enough room to simply run some lights to create a festive frame.”

Front Porch Christmas Trees

With Christmas decor, the obvious star of the show is the Christmas tree. So if you have the space, why not add a couple of trees to your front porch?

That’s exactly what @weepingwillow.farmhouse does here. The decorated trees make a big impact flanking the front door. A few smaller trees, red berry wreaths and wrapped presents finish the look.

Red-and-Pink Christmas Porch

For a playful and yummy-looking twist, check out this pink-and-red display from @mychristmas.

“When you look for a wreath, think about the style and size of your front door,” Keleher says. “In my case, I have double doors so I like one wreath [or in this case lollipops] on each door. If your door is very large, you may want to look at a bigger size wreath to maintain good proportions.”

Garlands of Green

Here, @midwestlifeandstyle starts with a lush, lighted garland around the door and adds a wreath with classic gold bells and two types of planters to her entryway.

The planters near the door are a DIY project, filled with pine branches, birch logs, curly willow branches and red berry stems. If your porch has windows, drape those with garlands as well.

Ornament Arch

This show-stopping front entry by @our_midfordhome87 with a red, silver and gold ornament arch might be easier to execute than you think. The secret is a doorway arch that stands on its own; this one is further secured to the overhang with zip ties. Then just attach the ornaments and baubles with floral wire. The more, the better!

DIY Jingle Bells

Follow along as @home.taylored purchases jumbo bells and customizes them for her exterior decor. By spray-painting them silver and gold, the bells look more like real ones, and the metallics dress up her front entry.

Use as many bells as you want on your porch, and add a few lighted trees on either side of the front door. Jingle all the way!
