Change Ornaments with Balloons

I love exploring new trends and color schemes every Christmas, but buying all new ornaments every year is not budget-friendly. This hack from @illustriousandy allows you to change the color of every tree ornament for just a couple of bucks! Buy a bag of balloons in the colors you want, snip off the end of each one, then insert the ornaments inside. The best part is that, unlike paint, the balloon covers aren’t permanent, so you can switch colors as much as you want.

Tie the Perfect Bow

It seems that every time I try to tie a bow for a gift or decor, it ends up looking like an uneven mess. So this year, I’ll be trying this hack from @dailyoriginalvids. Tape two chopsticks to the end of a table or desk. Then wrap ribbon around the chopsticks twice and tie into a bow. The chopsticks keep the bow loops even and hold everything in place as you tie. A perfect bow every time!

Store Ornaments in Cups

There are plenty of ornament organizers available, but if you’re like me, the last thing you want to do after the holidays is spend more money on storage solutions. Instead, try this storage hack using plastic cups. Store each ornament in a separate cup (the six-ounce party size works great). You can safely stack a lot of ornaments in one sturdy tub by placing cardboard between each layer.

Hang Tree Lights Vertically

Instead of wrapping lights horizontally around your Christmas tree, hang lights running up and down, moving in a slight zig-zag pattern as you go—as seen here from @marinamcavoy. This method is easier and saves time while still effectively lighting the branches. Plus, hanging lights vertically makes it easier to change out an individual strand if a bulb goes bad and requires fewer lights overall.

Pool Noodle Garland

Attach pool noodles to a doorway and use it as the base for a Christmas garland, as seen here from @steffydegref. The pool noodles are lightweight and easy to install, and add hidden fullness to the greenery. Plus, the squishy noodles are perfect for pinning in different embellishments and fastening on zip ties for bigger pieces.

Use a Hot Glue Gun for Exterior Lights

If it’s difficult to attach lights to your home’s exterior (like brick or in my case, stucco) try using a hot glue gun. Watch as @indy_christmaslight_pros demonstrates this hack. Just put a small dab on the light, then press it onto the exterior surface for 10 to 20 seconds, giving the glue time to harden. Here’s the best part: When it’s time to take down your lights and decorations, the glue should peel right off without leaving a mark!

Build Your Own Tree Stand

All you need is some scrap wood to build this DIY Christmas tree stand. The square base and customizable trunk-holder is a lot sturdier than cheap plastic stands, but won’t cost you much in materials—in fact, you may already have them on hand! Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to build it.

Make Your Tree Taller

Itching for a taller artificial tree this year? Save money and add height to your current tree with this hack from @charlottejayne_. She places bed leg risers inside the tree collar, sets the tree stand on top, then covers up the base with a fluffy blanket. The tree gains about 8-in. in height to make a bigger impact, and no one will know it’s the same tree from last year!

Wrap with Brown Craft Paper

Although there are a lot of fun holiday wrapping paper designs, I’ve started opting for brown craft paper instead. It’s more affordable than traditional wrapping paper, and you can use it year-round for birthdays and other holidays. Play around with different Christmas ribbons and embellishments and I guarantee each gift will look festive and chic.
