Experience

As Senior Producer of Home Projects for Family Handyman, Carmen designs and builds projects for video, streaming, digital and print.  

 

Carmen joins Family Handyman with 24 years of professional woodworking and home renovation experience. Including on-camera carpenter on several shows for HGTV, two Emmy-nominated seasons on OWN’s “Home Made Simple,” FOX International, NBC/Telemundo and most recently, as the Lead Carpenter on the Spanish language version of “Ask This Old House” for ROKU.

 

As a carpenter on “Hammer Heads” for HGTV, Carmen designed and made many one-of-a-kind wood projects and showcased her arsenal of decorative finishes and cement applications. From interior to exterior, decks to custom furniture. Carmen was the only female carpenter featured on many of HGTV’s competition shows, including “Design Star,” “Showdown,” and “250K Challenge.” She also served as Judge for Mike Holmes’ “All American Handyman Competition.”

Carmen’s biggest creative passion is woodturning, and she has been a demonstrator at several Woodturning Symposiums worldwide, including the All-Star Woodturning Symposium in Australia, the South Africa Woodturning Symposium at Nelson Mandela University, the Utah Woodturning Symposium, as well as the American Association of Woodturners Symposium in the United States on several occasions. 

 

Carmen is a City Commissioner and serves as Chair for The Landmark and Restoration Commission in her hometown of Waukesha, WI.
