The 8 Best Cooling Bed Sheets of 2024, Tested and Reviewed
Best Overall Cooling Sheets
Rest Evercool Cooling Sheet Set
Pros:
- Impressive cooling technology
- Quick-dry material
- Anti-microbial material
- Lightweight and breathable
- Stretchy material
- Hold up wash after wash
Cons:
- Limited color and size options
- Light color shows marks and stains easily
When I opened the Rest Evercool Cooling Sheet Set, I immediately felt how lightweight and cool the sheets were to touch. Getting into these sheets sent a cooling sensation through my legs, even when I was already hot. They’re super breathable and stretchy, too, so airflow from a fan or open window will be felt through the sheets. I also love that these sheets are made with an anti-microbial material, so I can feel good about snuggling into a clean bed at night.
I ordered the sheets in frosty peach, a creamy yellow color with pink tones. (They look slightly darker and pinker than pictured online.) They also come in grey and blue, but I wish more options were available. Though there are few colorways, the sheets are incredibly high-quality. The stretchy, breathable fabric is thin but not see-through. Best of all, they don’t wrinkle like many of the other sheet sets I tested, and they look as good as new after washing—which was not always the case with other sheets I tried.
My only complaint with the Rest Evercool Sheets was that they seemed to get marked up easily and show stains. Most of the time, they came out in the wash with no trouble, but if you’re easily bothered by marks and stains, I’d recommend opting for the grey color, as I think imperfections would be less visible.
These sheets cost about $300 per set, but you can’t beat their cooling properties. They also seem resistant to tearing or ripping and hold up wash after wash. Spring for the Rest Evercool Comforter to complete the coolest bedding set.
Best Soft Cooling Sheets
Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set
Pros:
- Made with 100% premium viscose from bamboo
- Multiple color and size options
- Extremely soft material that stays soft wash after wash
- Fits regular and deep pocket mattresses up to 20 inches
Cons:
- Wrinkle and stain easily
These sheets are very soft and silky-smooth with a satin-like feel. If you love an extra-soft sheet and want a set with cooling properties, these are for you. Compared to cotton or polyester sheets, these bamboo sheets are incredibly cool.
Cozy Earth recommends machine washing its bamboo sheets on cold with gentle detergent. Then, they can be tumbled dry. I followed those recommendations, and the sheets held up wash after wash. However, they wrinkled and stained easily, which was a bit of a bummer. If you aren’t prone to making messes and don’t mind steaming your sheets, you have nothing to worry about.
The Cozy Earth bamboo sheet set is about $400, depending on which size you get, but these are the softest, silkiest cooling sheets I tested. So, the search is over if you’ve been searching for a set of ultra-soft luxury sheets with cooling properties. The sheets come in six sizes and 14 colors, matching just about any bed or room! I opted for the color clay, a beautiful, muted terracotta color that I found slightly lighter in person than pictured online.
While the price tag can be a bit shocking, the brand offers a 100-night sleep trial to decide if they’re right for you. But, if you have the experience I did while testing these sheets, you’ll look forward to sleeping on them night after night.
Best Budget Cooling Sheets
Olive + Crate Tencel Eucalyptus Sheet Set
Pros:
- Great value
- Multiple color and size options
- Buttery-soft feel
- Darker colors hide stains well
- Material made with 100% eucalyptus
Cons:
- Wrinkle easily
Okay, I know what you’re thinking; this price tag may not be exactly what you expect when shopping for budget sheets. However, the Olive + Crate Eucalyptus Sheets are luxury cooling sheets, and compared to the other options on this list, they are relatively more affordable. Honestly, they’re a good dupe for the Cozy Earth sheets. While these sheets are made with Tencel (not bamboo), they feel similar to bamboo sheets and are soft to the touch—and the material feels very cool to the touch.
There are 12 colorways and six size options. I went for the Basalt Blue color, which looks just like it does online. They’re as close to neutral as you can get with a blue hue, and I didn’t have any issues with staining. They wrinkle a bit after washing, but that wasn’t a deal breaker for me. I loved these sheets!
Best Eco-Friendly Cooling Sheets
Luxome Luxury Sheet Set
Pros:
- Bamboo cultivated without chemicals or pesticides
- Great value
- Multiple color and size options
- Corner bands to prevent slipping
- Silky feel
Cons:
- Lost some of their silkiness after first wash
Another bamboo option in the same price range as the sheets above is the Luxome Luxury Sheets—and they’re eco-friendly. The bamboo used is cultivated without chemicals or pesticides. Furthermore, bamboo is sustainable due to its natural renewing properties.
I chose the color dune, a warm, sandy shade, but ten other color options are available. Dune was stunning in person and is a great neutral option for those wanting to add a warm hue to their bedding. The sheets have corner bands to help keep them from slipping over the mattress. Truthfully, I didn’t have any issues with slippage or movement with any of the luxury sheets I tested for this list, bands or no bands.
These sheets are silky to the touch. However, I noticed some silkiness was lost after the first wash. These sheets were also much heavier than the others I tested. So, they took up more washer and dryer space, which is something to note if you have smaller appliances. On the bed, I didn’t find the weight to be obnoxious or to trap in heat. These might be the way to go if you prefer a thicker sheet.
Best Stretchy Cooling Sheets
BedGear VerTex Sheets
Pros:
- Ultra-stretchy fabric
- Feels like soft athleticwear
- Impressive cooling capabilities
- Fully banded elastic secures fitted sheet to mattress
- Enhanced breathability and airflow
Cons:
- Limited color and size options
- Expensive
Textures are important, especially when that texture is all you feel for an entire night’s slumber. If you don’t like the slick or silky feel of some cooling sheets, the BedGear VerTex Sheets feel more like a stretchy, high-quality t-shirt yet still maintain cooling properties on par with the rest of the sheets on this list.
These sheets are marketed as “your favorite activewear,” which is an incredibly accurate description. They feel like your nicest athletic shirt and are super stretchy, like a pair of leggings. If you like a jersey knit sheet, these nylon are a bit similar but far less warm. These sheets do not slip or slide at all because they don’t have a satin feel, and I didn’t find that they lost any softness after being washed.
Best Cotton Blend Cooling Sheets
Nolah Deep Pocket Blended Cotton Sheet Set
Pros:
- Combine cotton and viscose from bamboo
- Ultra-plush feel
- Elastic band for added security
- Fit any mattress up to 17 inches tall
- Breathable with subtle sheen
Cons:
- Limited color options
Do you like cotton’s feel but want bamboo’s cooling properties? The Nolah Bamboo Sheet Set offers the best of both worlds. Thanks to the cotton blend, they’re soft, breathable and have a bit of plushness. The materials not only blend well together, but they also make the sheets a bit more affordable, too. Better yet, stain removal is a breeze with these lightweight sheets, which proved incredibly durable night after night and wash after wash. Wrinkles also came out quickly in the dryer, which is excellent, especially if you use these sheets on a guest bed.
These sheets are available in three neutral colors: White, tan and grey. I opted for the grey “silver” color, a lovely hue that will pull together any color palate with grey and white shades or tints.
With deep fitted sheet pockets, the Nolah sheets will fit on virtually any mattress up to 17 inches tall. The fitted sheet also has an elastic band around the entire edge to keep it in place while you toss and turn throughout the night.
Best Cotton Cooling Sheets
Boll & Branch Signature Hemmed Sheet Set
Pros:
- Made entirely of organic cotton
- Fitted sheet has deep, 17-inch pockets
- Sheets get softer with each wash
- Available many size and color options, including printed patterns
- Fitted sheet is labeled for easy identification
- Fair-Trade Certified and sustainably made
Cons:
- Pricey
I called in backup from other Family Handyman editors for the last two sets of sheets. When she first heard about the hype, Senior Editor Caroline Lubinsky knew she had to try these 100% cotton sheets for herself. Typically, we’d recommend staying away from 100% cotton sheets if you want a cooling effect. However, these sheets get softer with each wash, yet don’t make you sweat like you’ve just run a marathon. And if you want your bed to feel like it belongs in a quaint little inn, then cotton may be the way to go. For more details, see Lubinsky’s full review of the Boll & Branch sheets.
The Boll & Branch Signature Hemmed Sheet Set is made with long-staple cotton, which is higher quality than the more basic short-staple cotton. In other words, long-staple cotton tends to be softer and look better over time than short-staple cotton.
The downside? These sheets are expensive, especially for cotton—a twin set starts at $228 and goes up with each size. However, the price becomes more justified when considering the materials are ethically sourced, and the sheets will likely last for years. Lubinsky tried out these sheets for five weeks and dutifully washed them each week. “They became cozier (without making me sweaty) wash after wash, like a well-worn T-shirt might. I was hooked,” Lubinsky says.
Additionally, we love that the Boll & Branch sheets come in 14 color options and six printed patterns. They’re the only sheets on this list that come in patterns. So, if patterned sheets are your thing, you’ll want to check out these cooling sheets.
Best Sateen Cooling Sheets
Molecule Sateen Performance Sheets
Pros:
- Luxuriously soft
- Moisture-wicking and breathable
- Affordable
- Sustainable
- OEKO-TEX certified
- Wrinkle-resistant
Cons:
- Limited color options
What is sateen anyway? It’s cotton or other non-silk fabric with silk satin qualities, but it is more affordable. It’s great for people who want a smooth, absorbent material that doesn’t wrinkle. The Molecule Sheets are a blend of cotton and lyocell (or Tencel), so they have the comfort of cotton with the moisture-wicking and cooling properties of lyocell.
Associate Product Reviews Editor Sheri Kaz tested and reviewed the Molecule Sheets in Powder Blue, and they delivered exceptional comfort and beauty. Upon arrival, Kaz immediately noticed their gorgeous sheen and super-soft feel.
After washing them in cold water and line drying, a few wrinkles remained, but they were hardly noticeable once the sheets were on the bed. “Compared to my 100% organic cotton sheets, the Molecule Sheets were significantly cooler and offered a softer, smoother feel without sacrificing the crispness I enjoy,” Kaz says. “Crisp, not crunchy, scratchy or stiff, just to be clear.” As a hot sleeper, she never felt damp or woke up in a puddle of sweat.
The Molecule Sheets maintained quality without snags or pilling, even after several weeks of use and many washes. We also appreciate the affordability of these sheets.
What to Look for When Buying Cooling Sheets
Cooling bed sheets are a must-have item during the summer months. Beyond cost, color and size, one thing you’ll want to look at when buying bed sheets to help you stay cool is material. Fabrics made with materials like bamboo or lyocell (Tencel) are cooling and moisture-wicking. Meanwhile, cotton—unless blended with one of those cooling materials—tends to hold heat. If you’re someone who prefers the feel of cotton, then we recommend purchasing high-quality, long-staple cotton that’s lightweight and breathable.
Why You Should Trust Us
We tested every set of sheets on my bed every night for at least a month. It took me almost a year of testing to try six sets of luxury cooling sheets with multiple rounds of washing. I washed them in my washing machine on a cold cycle and dried them in the dryer—no special treatment. Let’s be honest, who wants to airdry sheets? That way, I could note how each set of sheets held up after repeated washing and drying. Beyond washability and durability, we also took testing notes on how each set of sheets felt on the skin and how well they kept us cool night after night.
The Best Cooling Sheets Made My Post-Partum Night Sweats Bearable
That’s right, postpartum hot flashes are no joke. Combine them with warm weather, and it’s a recipe for disaster. In other words, the cooling bed sheets on this list were tested under rather extreme circumstances. I tested sheets in warm and cold climates, and, as someone with current temperature regulation issues, it was easy for me to notice which sheets kept me cool and from waking up in a pool of sweat. Thanks to the luxury cooling sheets on this list, however, I was able to avoid nighttime meltdowns and keep cool.
